TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 6 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 2-under-par 282 on Sunday at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational played at ASU's Karsten Golf Course (par 71, 7,017 yards) and finished in second place, one shot behind Arizona.
The Rebels (279-270-282--831, -21) finished the tournament at 21-under, but Arizona (278-280-272--830, -22) shot a final-round 12-under 272 to record a 54-hole total of 21-under 830 to win the event by one shot. San Diego State (277-272-286--835, -17) and Kansas State (287-271-277--835, -17) each tied for third at 17-under, while Stanford (283-276-279--838, -14) rounded out the top five.
Kansas State's Ben Kern (69-65-65--199, -14) matched his second-round score with another 6-under 65 during the final round to capture medalist honors at 14-under 199 for the tournament. Arizona's Henry Liaw (66-69-67--202, -11) finished in second place, three shots back.
UNLV was led by senior Andres Gonzales (71-68-70--209, -4) and freshman Blake Trimble (69-70-70--209, -4), who both shot final-round 1-under 70s and finished tied for eighth place.
Other UNLV scores: freshman Seung-Su Han (69-66-75--210, -3; T11th), sophomore Jarred Texter (77-67-67--211, -2; T15th) and sophomore C.J. Gatto (70-69-77--216, +3; T37th).
UNLV's next action will be at the Cougar Classic set for April 14-15 in Provo, Utah.
