ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 7 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 5-over-par 293 on Friday and moved up one spot into second place, two shots off the lead at the NCAA East Regional at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club (par 72, 7,179 yards).
After opening the tournament on Thursday with a 1-under 287, UNLV's 36-hole total is 4-over 580. Top-seeded Georgia remained in the top spot after Friday's round of 6-over 294 for a two-round total of 2-over 578 to lead the field.
Wake Forest is third at 5-over 581, followed by Texas Tech at 6-over 582 and North Carolina rounds out the top five at 9-over 585. Conditions on Friday afternoon were extremely windy, which played a part in the fact that no team broke par during the second round.
USC's Taylor Wood shot a second-round 3-under 69 and occupies the top individual spot at 5-under 139 for the tournament. UNLV sophomore Jarred Texter followed up his first-round 2-under 70 with another 70 on Friday and is tied for second at 4-under 140 for the tournament, one shot off the lead. North Carolina's Jonathan Jackson is also tied for second place. Jackson followed a first-round 6-under 66 with a 2-over 74 during the second round.
Other Rebel scores: freshman Seung-Su Han (72-75--147, +3; T19th), senior Andres Gonzales (76-72--148, +4; T27th), sophomore Matt Kinsinger (76-76--152, +8; T71st) and freshman Blake Trimble (69-86--155, +11; T90th).
Play will conclude with 18 holes on Saturday with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. EDT.
The top 10 teams and two individuals not on advancing teams will move on to the championship finals, which will be held May 31-June 3 in Sunriver, Ore.
