ORLANDO, Fla. - The No. 7 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 16-over-par 304 on Saturday and finished in 10th place at the NCAA East Regional at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club (par 72, 7,179 yards).
The top 10 teams and two individuals not on advancing teams earned an invitation to the NCAA Championship, which will be held May 31-June 3 in Sunriver, Ore.
With the top-10 finish, the Rebels will be appearing in their 16th NCAA Championship over a span of the last 18 years.
Wake Forest captured the 2006 NCAA East Regional team title after shooting a final-round 5-under 283 to finish the 54-hole tournament at even-par 864. Top-seeded Georgia finished second, one shot back at 1-over 865. Texas Tech finished third at 9-over and was followed by North Carolina in fourth at 10-over, while Coastal Carolina and Charlotte tied for fifth at 13-over.
UCLA (14-over), Auburn (15-over) and South Carolina (17-over) will be the other NCAA East Regional representatives at the NCAA Championship by finishing seventh through ninth, respectively.
UNLV finished the tournament at 20-over 884, seven shots ahead of Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Indiana, who all finished at 27-over.
UCLA's Kevin Chappell shot a final-round 4-under 68 and won the individual title at 5-under 211. UNLV sophomore Jarred Texter finished one shot back after shooting a final-round even-par 72 and finished the tournament in three-way tie for second place at 4-under 212.
