LAS VEGAS - For the second straight year, UNLV Athletics finished in the top 75 among the more than 320 colleges and universities eligible for the 2005-06 Sports Academy Directors' Cup (formerly Sears Cup).
The standing of 72 overall tied for the Rebels' fourth best in the award's 13-year history.
"In the last two years we've improved our standing dramatically, which is proof positive that this athletics department is heading in the right direction," Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick said. "The future is nothing but bright for our programs."
Scoring points with NCAA appearances this year were the following UNLV teams: women's soccer, men's swimming and diving, women's indoor track and field, men's golf and women's golf.
Stanford won the 2005-06 Sports Academy Directors' Cup in the NCAA Division I for a record 12th consecutive year.
The award is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), United States Sports Academy and USA TODAY to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country.
