LAS VEGAS - The 48th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team opened its 2007 dual-match season by not losing a set in a 7-0 victory over visiting New Mexico State at a sun-splashed Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.
The Lady Rebels opened the morning by winning all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 team lead.
In singles play, All-American Elena Gantcheva evened her junior record at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Zeljka Juricek at the top spot. Nikol Dimitrova won 6-3, 6-3 over Nicole Fintell at No. 2; freshman Kristina Nedeltcheva breezed by Anne Fagegaltier 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3; senior Claire Smith fought off Paulina Zuniga 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4; Linda Tempelfelde defeated Aleska Costa at the fifth position 6-2, 6-2; and rookie Alisa Razina won her collegiate debut, 6-1, 7-5, over Estelle Guillaumond on court six.
UNLV continues its opening weekend by taking on former Big West Conference rival Pacific on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
