LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field gets its season underway on Saturday at the University of Washington Indoor Invitational, an all-day meet held at the Dempsey Indoor Stadium on the campus of UW.
The Rebels are part of one of the top fields of any indoor meet in the country this year, including full teams from No. 1 Stanford, No. 12 Washington and No. 16 Oregon, as well as individuals from No. 19 Texas Tech, BYU and Arizona. The meet begins with field events at 8:30 a.m. (PT) on and track events at 9:30 a.m., and is scheduled to conclude at 4:15 p.m.
UNLV head coach Barbara Ferrell-Edmonson is bringing 16 individuals to the meet, and the contingent will be led by senior Ashley Patin and juniors Tanesha Carr, Kenya Polee and Monique Humphries. Patin is the lone senior on the squad and will run in both the sprints and hurdles. Carr will run in the sprint events, Polee returns as one of the top long jumpers in the Mountain West Conference while Humphries set two UNLV records in throwing events last year.
It is a young squad that will take the track in Seattle, as no less than eight student-athletes will be making their debuts for the Rebels on Saturday. Four freshmen are in that group and they are Samantha Davis, Aja Evans, De'Lace Kelly and Talyah Polee, who is the younger sister of Kenya.
Results of the meet will be posted live throughout the day and fans can view them by clicking here.
