Netters Hit San Diego For Regional

LAS VEGAS - UNLV will send seven singles players and three doubles teams to compete in the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Women's West Regional Championships running Thursday through Monday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.

Leading the way for the Lady Rebels will be 50th-ranked and ninth-seeded Elena Gantcheva who, after a first-round bye, will face Marta Simic of UC Santa Barbara. Also seeded from UNLV is No. 16 Kristina Nedeltcheva who will face Shelly Injejikian of Cal State Fullerton after both earned a first-round bye.

Other Lady Rebels in the draw are Katy Williams, Anna Maskaljun, Alisa Razina, Adrienn Hidvegi and Nikol Dimitrova.

In doubles, Gantcheva and Nedeltcheva, who are ranked fifth nationally, are also seeded second at the event and will enjoy a first-round bye. UNLV's two other duos will be Williams and Maskaljun and Hidvegi and Dimitrova.

No less than 17 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over the last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 3-6 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
