LAS VEGAS - One UNLV player pushed forward into the quarterfinals and a pair of doubles teams are still alive at the ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships after the second day of action at the Darling Memorial Tennis Center on Thursday.

"Overall, we had a solid second day," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "Everyone played well, especially in doubles."

UNLV was led by 27th-ranked and third-seeded Elliot Wronski, who downed Miles Bugby of New Mexico 6-4, 6-2 and then rolled past BYU's Thomas Shubert 6-4, 6-3 to advance. Wesley Burrows won his first match to get into the Round of 16 but then fell to fifth-seeded Clancy Shields 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Two Rebels - Luca Barlocchi and Rony Yeghnazary -- are also still alive in the Round of 16 of consolation singles play.

In doubles, Wronski and Burrows, seeded fourth, were victorious over a team from Idaho while Luca Barlocchi and David Campbell also advanced with a win over a duo from Utah State.

No less than 17 Wilson/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women are taking place over the last two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles finalists and doubles champion from this event will earn spots in the November 1-4 ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at the Racquet Club of Columbus.
