PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - UNLV senior Elena Gantcheva lost in the first round of singles qualifying at the 23rd Annual Riviera All-American Tennis Championships on Tuesday.

Gantcheva, ranked 50th, fell to 3-1 on the young season after being swept by 68th-ranked Chisako Sugiyama of Michigan 6-2, 7-5.

She now drops into the singles consolation bracket and will also begin play in the event's doubles main draw on Thursday. She and partner Kristina Nedeltcheva are currently ranked fifth in the nation.
