Foiled In First Round

COLUMBUS, Ohio - UNLV senior star Elena Gantcheva lost her first-round singles match Thursday and now will look to rally in consolation play at the 2007 ITA Indoor Tennis Championships, which are being staged at the Racquet Club of Columbus and hosted by The Ohio State University.

Gantcheva, ranked 50th nationally, extended fourth-ranked and second-seeded Susie Babos of Cal before falling in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

She will face eighth-ranked Georgia Rose of Northwestern in the Consolation Round of 16 on Friday.
