LAS VEGAS - Two UNLV singles players and a pair of doubles teams are still alive in the main draw of the annual Rebel Classic Men's Tennis Tournament, which kicked off Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Top seed Elliot Wronski enjoyed a first-round bye and then got by Vicente Joli of Fresno Pacific 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to move into Saturday's semifinals. Also advancing for the hosts was Luca Barlocchi, who defeated Matt Carroll of Fresno Pacific 6-4, 6-2, and then moved ahead by default over teammate David Campbell.
In doubles, second-seeded Wronski and Wesley Burrows had a first-day bye while Matt Kunkel and Bryan Miller advanced with an 8-6 win over Mario Foelz and Maxime Adam of Fresno Pacific.
Two rounds of doubles and one round of singles are scheduled for Saturday along with consolation play.
"We have a big contingent still alive in singles and doubles so we are looking forward to another full day of good competition on Saturday," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said.
