LAS VEGAS - Host UNLV got a doubles title at its own tournament without serving a ball while an up-and-coming sophomore nearly got the Rebels a singles crown as well during Sunday's final day of the annual Rebel Classic men's tennis tournament at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
In doubles, second-seeded Elliot Wronski and Wesley Burrows earned the championship in a walk-over when their opponents Boris Conkic and Davey Sandgren of Tennessee defaulted before the match began.
In singles, sophomore Luca Barlocchi nearly took down Conkic before falling 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 to give the Vol the title.
"I'm very proud of the way Luca finished up the weekend. He's really improved but his opponent today was just too good." UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "Everyone is looking forward to the spring season."
With Sunday marking the end of fall individual tournament play, UNLV is off until traveling to Boise, Idaho, for the ITA Team Playoff on January 19.
