Feb. 10, 2007

SAN DIEGO - The 74th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost a close doubles point and couldn't recover in singles play, falling 5-2 to No. 48 San Diego at the USD West Tennis Courts on Saturday.

The Rebels fell to 2-3 overall while the Toreros improved to 2-4. San Diego began the afternoon by taking the top two doubles matches. With UNLV getting the win on court three, the team point came down to No. 2 where USD's team won the five final points in an 8-5 victory.

In singles play, Elliot Wronski swept Jonas Mouly 6-1, 6-2 at the top position. Also scoring for UNLV was Wesley Burrows, who rallied past Charl Womarans on court five, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

"I was proud of the way the guys competed today," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "If we keep giving this kind of effort across the board, then good things will happen for this team."

It doesn't get any easier for the Rebels as they face defending national champion Pepperdine on Sunday in Malibu beginning at 1 p.m.
