Rebels Race To Lead At Burns

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - The No. 7 (Golfweek ratings) UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 11-under-par 277 at the John Burns Intercollegiate played at Leilehua Golf Course (par 72, 6,918 yards) Wednesday and leads the field by two strokes.

BYU is second at 9-under 279 and is followed by Auburn, Colorado State and Long Beach State, who are all tied for third at 4-under 284. The field is comprised of 22 teams.

Michael Drake of Long Beach State leads all individuals after the first round at 7-under 65, with BYU's Nick Becker in second, one shot back at 6-under 66.

Eddie Olson led UNLV during the first day of action with a 4-under 68 and is in a four-way tie for fourth place, three shots off the lead. Jarred Texter and Seung-Su Han are the other Rebels in the top 10 at 3-under 69 and in a seven-way tie for eighth place.

Other UNLV first-round scores: Matt Kinsinger, 1-under 71, tied for 22nd; C.J. Gatto, 2-over 74, tied for 65th.

The tournament will continue on Thursday and conclude on Friday with 18 holes beginning at 8 a.m. HST each day.
