Feb. 22, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Elliot Wronski, fresh from earning his first career national ranking, has been named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, the league announced.

The native of Cheltenham, England, improved his career singles record to 22-9 by upsetting then-No. 26 Jakub Cech of Fresno State, 6-2, 6-3 last Sunday.

Wronski is the first Rebel netter to earn the honor since Joel Kielbowicz on March 23, 2006. UNLV next faces UC Irvine on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Darling Tennis Center.

Utah's Elizabeth Ferris was named the league's women's player of the week.
