SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - The No. 7 (Golfweek ratings) UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round even-par 288 on Friday at the John Burns Intercollegiate played at Leilehua Golf Course (par 72, 6,918 yards), but fell out of the lead and finished second at 22-under 842.
BYU shot a final-round 18-under 270 and won the team title by eight shots at 30-under 834. Texas A&M finished third at 9-under, San Diego State was fourth at 8-under, while Colorado State rounded out the top five at 6-under. The tournament had 22 teams competing.
SMU's Frank Wrenn, who was competing as an individual, won the individual title by one shot at 13-under 203. Wrenn shot a final-round 3-under 69. BYU's Jake Ellison finished second at 12-under after shooting 6-under during the final round.
UNLV was led by Jarred Texter, who finished tied for sixth. Texter shot a final-round 3-over 75 to finish the tournament at 7-under, six shots back.
Other UNLV final-round scores and totals: Seung-Su Han, 1-under 71, tied for eighth at 6-under; Eddie Olson, 2-over 74, tied for 19th at 4-under; C.J. Gatto, 2-under 70, tied for 32nd at even par; Matt Kinsinger, 1-over 73, tied for 32nd at even par.
UNLV's next action will be in Las Vegas as the host of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, March 9-11 at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
