LAS VEGAS - The 74th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team broke a three-match losing skid with a 5-2 victory over No. 75 UC Irvine under the lights late Saturday at the Darling Tennis Center as part of the Tennis Channel Open.
The Rebels improved to 3-5 overall while the Anteaters fell to 3-4. UCI opened the evening by taking two of three doubles matches for one team point. UNLV, however, dominated singles play, losing on only one court.
Elliot Wronski, ranked 87th this week, continued his strong play by sweeping Aaron Yovan at the top position, 6-4, 7-6. Also winning for the Rebels was Brett Hunter at No. 2, David Campbell at No. 3, Slavko Bijelica at No. 5 and Luca Barlocchi on court six.
"I was impressed with how everyone fought hard from court one through six," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "We played well against a well-coached UC Irvine team and now we can build on this victory."
The Rebels next travel to Arizona State on March 2.
