LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field concludes its short indoor regular season this weekend, traveling to Albuquerque, N.M., for the TCR Race Productions Invitational, a two-day meet held in the Albuquerque Convention Center.
UNLV will be one of 10 teams competing in the meet, which will include MWC rivals Air Force, New Mexico and San Diego State in what will be the final tune-up for the Rebels before the MWC Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-24.
The Rebels and head coach Barbara Ferrell-Edmonson will be traveling 15 student-athletes to the meet and thus far it has been a successful indoor season for the Rebels, as a school record and several personal bests have been set.
Rebel junior Monique Humphries set the UNLV mark in the weight throw two weeks ago with a mark of 57'-2.25" at the season-opening University of Washington Invitational. She broke her own record of 54'-5.25", which she set last year in Albuquerque. Kenya Polee (long jump), Olivia Raya (weight throw and shot put) and Desarae Tyson (800 meters and mile).
The meet gets underway Friday at 5:00 p.m. (PST) with three field events (women's pole vault, women's long jump and women's weight throw) along with the prelims of the women's 60-meter hurdles. Saturday action resumes at 9:00 a.m. with the women's triple jump and the first track event is the women's 60-meter hurdles finals.
