Rebels Make Move During Second Round

LAS VEGAS - The No. 8 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round-low 3-over 291 on Saturday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship played at Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,510 yards). The Rebels moved from 15th place into a tie for sixth, and are nine shots off the lead.

Georgia moved up one spot to first place after carding an 11-over 299 during the second round to lead by three shots at 8-over 584. UCLA is second at 11-over, followed by Florida at 15-over, while Arizona and Texas A&M are both tied for fourth at 16-over. The Rebels are in a three-way tie for sixth with Clemson and Georgia Tech at 17-over 593.

Four players share the lead at 3-under 141. Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro sho a second-round 1-under 71, while Florida's Billy Horschel and UCLA's Lucas Lee were at even-par 72. Texas A&M's Martin Piller, the lone leader after the first round of play, is the other player tied for first after he shot a second-round 2-over 74.

UNLV's Brett Kanda shot a second-round 3-under 69 and leads all Rebel players at 1-under 143 in a tie for fifth place. C.J. Gatto is the next Rebel player in the standings in a tie for 27th at 5-over after a second-round 1-over 73. Blake Trimble, who is competing as an individual, is also tied for 27th.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday. The event is open to the public and admission is free of charge.
