LAS VEGAS - On Wednesday, March 21, Governor Jim Gibbons called Coach Lon Kruger to congratulate the Runnin' Rebels on their recent success, and wished them well in the Sweet 16 of the 2007 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

A proclamation from the Governor was delivered to the team during practice on Wednesday afternoon informing the players that Friday will be known as "Runnin' Rebel Day" in the State of Nevada.

Governor Gibbons said, "I am very proud of the 2006-07 UNLV Men's Basketball Team, and their accomplishments. It is an honor to proclaim this Friday as "Runnin' Rebel Day" in the State of Nevada, and I wish the team continued success throughout the remainder of the NCAA Tournament."

Here is the text of the governor's proclamation:

WHEREAS, on Friday, March 23, 2007, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Runnin' Rebels Basketball Team will head to St. Louis, Missouri to face the Oregon Ducks in the "Sweet 16" of the 2007 NCAA Basketball Tournament; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada, has had a very impressive history in the game of college basketball with both the University of Nevada Wolf Pack and the UNLV Runnin' Rebels; and WHEREAS, the Runnin' Rebels have made numerous NCAA Tournament appearances, culminating with a National Championship in 1990; and

WHEREAS, the 2007 UNLV Runnin' Rebels Basketball Team has proven to be recognized in college basketball with a record of 30-6, ending the regular season nationally ranked, as well as their impressive comeback win over the BYU Cougars to become the Mountain West Conference Tournament Champions; and

WHEREAS, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Runnin' Rebels Men's Championship Basketball Team is made up of very diverse and talented individuals; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of Nevada are very proud of the Runnin' Rebels Basketball Team and their coaches, and wish them the very best in the remainder of the 2007 NCAA Basketball Tournament;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIM GIBBONS, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim March 23, 2007, as

"Runnin' Rebel Day"
