SAN DIEGO - The UNLV men's tennis team lost a key Mountain West Conference neutral-site match vs. No. 72 Utah, 4-3, at the Aztec Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Rebels fell to 8-12 overall and 1-2 in the league while the Utes improved 11-7 and 1-1 on the year.
Utah began the day by emerging with the all-important doubles point. The UNLV duo of Wesley Burrows and Jonathan Hooper won their match on court two by the score of 8-3 but the Utes evened things with a win on court three. With all eyes on the top position, Miron Mann and Zach Ganger fought off Elliot Wronksi and Brett Hunter in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-4).
The two teams went on to split the six singles matches, which was enough to secure the win for Utah. Scoring for UNLV was Burrows over Wes Hancock at No. 3, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3; Slavko Bijelica over Jason Smits at No. 4, 7-5, 6-4; and Luca Barlocchi on court six over Timmy Allin 6-3, 6-2.
The Rebels are now off until a three-match roadtrip to Fort Worth beginning on April 13.
