LAS VEGAS - The No. 8 UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 14-over-par 302 on Friday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship played at Southern Highlands Golf Club (par 72, 7,510 yards) and is in 15th place.
UCLA leads the field at 6-under 282 after the first round and is followed by Georgia (-3), Georgia Tech (-2), Arizona State (+2) and Florida (+3).
Texas A&M's Martin Piller shot an opening-round 5-under 67 and leads all individuals by a stroke. There is a three-way tie for second at 4-under.
UNLV's Blake Trimble, who is playing as an individual, leads all Rebel players in a tie for 21st place at 1-over. Teammate Brett Kanda leads the Rebels whose scores are counting toward the team at 2-over in a tie for 33rd.
