TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 6 UNLV men's golf team shot an opening-round 3-under-par 285 on Friday at the Thunderbird Invitational at Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 7,057 yards) and is in seventh place.
Oregon is the team leader after the first round of play at 11-under 277 and is followed by USC at 10-under. Texas Tech is third at 9-under, while host Arizona State is fourth at 7-under and Oklahoma and Texas A&M are both tied for fifth at 6-under. UNLV is next in seventh place, eight shots off the lead.
Oregon's Derek Sipe leads all individuals at 7-under 65, while New Mexico's Charlie Beljan is in second, one shot back at 6-under.
UNLV was led by Seung-su Han who is in a three-way tie for fifth place at 4-under 68, three shots off the lead.
Other Rebel scores: Jarred Texter, 70, T11th; Blake Trimble, 73, T44th; C.J. Gatto, 74, T58th and Eddie Olson, 74, T58th.
Play will continue with 18 holes on Saturday and conclude with 18 on Sunday.
