FORT WORTH, Texas - Playing indoors for the second straight day because of severe weather in the Metroplex, the UNLV men's tennis team lost the all-important doubles point and ultimately the match to Mountain West Conference rival TCU 4-3 on Saturday.
The Rebels fell to 9-13 overall and 2-3 in the league while the Horned Frogs improved to 8-11 and 4-1 on the year.
TCU began the evening meeting by winning on two of three doubles courts for one team point. UNLV's lone victory came at No. 3 where David Campbell and Slavko Bijelica won 8-2.
In singles play, the Frogs increased their lead by picking up two straight-set wins at the top of the lineup. At No. 1, 109th-ranked Cosmin Cotet upset No. 89 Elliot Wronski 6-4, 6-4, and Chris Biro then fought off Wesley Burrows at No. 2, 6-1, 7-6.
Rebel senior Brett Hunter would rally on court four, downing Kriegler Brink 1-6, 7-5, 6-2, to get his team on the board. UNLV was still very much alive as it won the first set in all three remaining matches, but TCU went on to clinch the victory on court three when Radu Barbu won a third-set tiebreaker to rally past freshman Bijelica 5-7, 6-3, 7-6.
The Rebels then finished off their opponents on the bottom two courts to reach three points. Campbell beat David Ulrich 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 at No. 5 and Luca Barlocchi downed Stuart Row at No. 6 by the score of 7-5, 6-1.
UNLV will close its regular season by facing Air Force on Sunday in Fort Worth.
