TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 6 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 3-under-par 285 on Sunday at the Thunderbird Invitational at Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 7,057 yards) and finished in sixth place at 10-under 854.
Oregon shot even-par 288 during the final round, but hung on to win the tournament at 20-under 844. Host Arizona State finished second at 17-under after a final-round 5-under 283. USC finished third at 15-under, Texas A&M was fourth at 14-under, while Arizona rounded out the top five at 12-under.
New Mexico's Charlie Beljan shot a final-round 4-under 68 to leapfrog Oregon's Derek Sipe and capture medalist honors at 15-under 201. Sipe shot a final-round 1-over 73 and finished the tournament in second place at 12-under.
Seung-Su Han led all UNLV players with an eighth-place finish at 6-under 210. Han closed the tournament with a 2-under 70. Jarred Texter also finished in the top 10 for the Rebels with a tie for ninth place at 5-under 211. Texter shot an even-par 72 on Sunday.
Other Rebel final-round scores, totals and standings: Blake Trimble, 72, 1-over 217, T30th; C.J. Gatto, 71, 2-over 218, T37th; Eddie Olson, 73, 2-over 218, T37th.
The Rebels will be back in action April 27-29 at the Mountain West Conference Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
