Rebels Seventh After NIT's First Day

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 6 UNLV men's golf team is in seventh place after the first day of play at the National Invitational Tournament on Monday at OMNI Tucson National (par 72, 7,200 yards).

The Rebels shot 5-under-par 283 during the first round and followed with a second-round 3-over 291 to finish the first day at 2-under 574 after 36 holes.

UNLV trails team-leading Tulsa by 10 shots heading into the final round. The Golden Hurricane leads the field at 12-under 564 and is followed in second place by Arizona State at 10-under. Texas A&M is third at 7-under, followed by TCU at 5-under, while host Arizona and UCLA rounds out the top five - both at 4-under 572.

Tulsa's Ryan Henry leads all individuals at 8-under 136 after shooting two rounds of 4-under 68. Arizona State's Benjamin Alvarado and UCLA's Kevin Chappell are both tied for second, three shots back at 5-under.

Seung-Su Han and Eddie Olson lead UNLV - both in a tie for 10th place at 2-under 142, six shots off the lead. Han turned in rounds of 69 and 73 on Monday, while Olson shot 70, then 72.

Other Rebel players: C.J. Gatto (75-72--147, +3; T42nd), Brett Kanda (75-74--149, +5; T55th) and Jarred Texter (69-80--149, +5; T55th).

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
