LAS VEGAS - Sophomore Elliot Wronski and senior Brett Hunter were UNLV's representatives on the 2007 All-Mountain West Conference tennis team as the league's awards were announced on Wednesday on the eve of the championship tournament at Air Force.
Wronski, a native of Cheltenham, England, was named all-league in both singles and doubles. Currently ranked 71st as an individual, Wronski is 17-11 overall and 14-8 in dual matches, including three victories vs. MWC opponents. He has defeated five ranked players this season, highlighted by stunning then-No. 3 Tony Paul of Wake Forest in straight sets on March 9.
In doubles Wronski and Hunter (Ballarat, Australia) stand 11-13 overall and 7-9 at the No. 1 spot in duals.
Wronski will lead his team into the MWC championship tournament as the third-seeded Rebels (10-13) face sixth-seeded Utah (12-10) in a quarterfinal matchup slated to begin at 10 a.m. PT in Colorado Springs. San Diego State swept the conference individual awards, which are determined by a vote of the MWC head coaches. Markus Dickhardt was tabbed player of the year, Achim Ceban won freshman of the year and Gene Carswell was voted coach of the year.
