Rebels Set For Regional In Oregon

LAS VEGAS - UNLV women's track and field will have a trio of student-athletes competing in the NCAA West Regional, which gets underway at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon on Friday.

Charlotte Browning, Aja Evans and Meia Tezeno are the three Rebels who have made the trek up to Oregon with hopes of advancing to the NCAA Championships.

Browning qualified in the 1,500 meters, the event she won at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships which helped her wrap up MWC Freshman of the Year. Browning enters the meet with the seventh-fastest time in the region at 4:22.22.

Tezeno earned a spot in two events and carries the 14th-best mark in the long jump (6.17 meters) the 16th-fastest time in the 100 meter hurdles (13.87). Evans will be competing in the shot put and has the 18th-best mark with a distance of 14.74 meters.

The top collegians from the states of Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington will vie for top-five individual event and top-three relay event finishes in return for invitations to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Wednesday-Saturday, June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif. The remaining 6-8 slots in the approximate 26-28 person NCAA meet fields will be announced on Tuesday afternoon, May 29 by the NCAA championship committee.
