Coach Kruger Released From Hospital

Aug. 6, 2007

LAS VEGAS - UNLV men's basketball head coach Lon Kruger was released from the hospital Monday afternoon and is recovering at home after last week's surgery.

Kruger underwent successful open-heart sextuple bypass surgery on Thursday, which was performed by Dr. V.C. Smith, Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at St. Rose Siena Hospital. Cardiologist Dr. Matt McMahon identified abnormalities early and referred Kruger to Dr. Smith for surgery.

"Dr. Smith and Dr. McMahon were fantastic," Kruger said. "The surgery was very successful. I would also like to thank everyone who has called with their well wishes. They are all much appreciated. I look forward to being back to full speed at the appropriate time."

Kruger is expected to be back to his normal schedule within the next four-to-six weeks.
