Rebels Compete at UC Irvine

Irvine, Calif. - The Rebel cross country team began its 2007 season with a 10th place finish at the Asics/UC Irvine Invitational Saturday. UNLV improved on last season's 15th place finish at UC Irvine, thanks to the much deeper 2007 squad.

Pacing the Rebels was newcomer Charlotte Browning, who finished the 5K course in 19:29.00, good for 42nd place overall. UC Irvine took the team title, having six runners place in the top 22 spots. Loyola Marymount's Laura Mickelson won individual honors, making the trek in 17:27.70.

After Browning, the next Rebel runner to finish the course was Ashley Silva, who completed the course in 20:03.20, good for 65th. Also scoring for UNLV was Ali Ainsworth with a time of 20:16.40 (71st), Jessica Heil (20:50.20, 83rd), Laura Lundin (21:04.60, 92nd), Samantha Jennings (21:34.20, 102nd) and Kristin Shell (22:24.20, 113th).

The Rebels travel back to California next Saturday, Sept. 15 for the SDSU Aztec Invitational meet in San Diego.
