Rebels Sweep MWC Weekly Honors

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Jonas Andersson and Marina Sandback were named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday by the league. It's the first honor of their career for both Rebels.

Anderson, a senior from Enskede, Sweden, swept all four breaststroke events, while helping the Rebel 200 medley relay team to a first and second-place finish in UNLV's conference wins over Wyoming and Air Force last weekend. In the win over the Cowboys, Andersson swam a time of 56.14 in the 100 breaststroke, which ties for the fastest time in the Conference this season. He also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:03.73 and helped the 200 medley relay squad to a first-place finish (1:31.52). In the Air Force meet, he won the 100 breast in 56.47 and the 200 breast in 2:03.52 and was a part of the second-place 200 medley relay team that finished in 1:34.48.

Sandback, a senior from Vasteras, Sweden, won all four of her individual events and also swam on four first-place relay teams in wins over Wyoming, New Mexico, and Air Force. In the meet against Wyoming and New Mexico, she was first in both the 100 butterfly (56.45) and the 100 freestyle (51.14). Sandback then swam on the victorious 200 medley (1:44.38) and 400-freestyle (3:29.07) relay teams. She followed with wins in the 50 freestyle (23.57) and 100 butterfly (56.34) against Air Force. Sandback also helped the 200 medley (1:45.41) and 400 free (3:29.03) relay teams to wins in the Air Force meet.
