LAS VEGAS - The 43rd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team opened its 2008 dual-match season with a 6-1 victory over former Big West Conference-rival Pacific at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.

The Lady Rebels opened the day by sweeping three doubles matches. Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva improved their career record together to 25-4 with an 8-1 win at the top spot. Katy Williams and freshman Anna Maskaljun emerged 8-6 at No. 2 and Sharon Marin and Nikol Dimitrova won 8-3 on court three.

Gantcheva, ranked 30th in the nation in singles, quickly won her match 6-2, 6-0 over Jolanta Twarowska at the top of the lineup. Also winning in straight sets were Nedeltcheva at No. 2, Williams at No. 3, Maskaljun at No. 5 and freshman Adrienn Hidvegi on court six.

Because of rain expected on Sunday, UNLV will play a double-header on Saturday. The Lady Rebels will face New Mexico State at 10 a.m. and then take on Weber State at approximately 1 p.m.
