LAS VEGAS - The 43rd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team did not lose a set en route to a 7-0 whitewash of Weber State on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The victory was the second of the day for the Lady Rebels (3-0). Because of rain expected to hit Las Vegas on Sunday, teams agreed to play a doubleheader.
For the third straight match, UNLV opened play by sweeping three doubles matches. Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva won 8-1 at No. 1, Katy Williams and freshman Anna Maskaljun got an 8-0 victory at No. 2 and Sharon Marin and Nikol Dimitrova won 8-2 on court three.
Gantcheva, ranked 30th in the nation, rolled 6-2, 6-3 in singles. Also winning in straight sets were Nedeltcheva, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, Williams, 6-0,6-0 at No. 3, Maskaljun, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4, Adrienn Hidvegi, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5, and senior Sharon Marin, playing her first dual match of the season, blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0 on court six.
"This was a solid weekend and nice start to the spring season," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "It was good to get out and compete as a team and I feel really good about where we are heading into next weekend's matches."
The Lady Rebels travel to No. 2-ranked Stanford on Friday and then head up to face Santa Clara on Sunday before returning for an eight-match homestand.
