LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's golf team, ranked eighth in the country in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, will compete at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, which will be played at the Old Overton Club (par 70, 6,934 yards) in Birmingham, Ala., Monday-Tuesday, October 13-14.
The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will consist of 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. The Rebels finished third in last year's JPNI at 23-under 829, 19 shots behind team champion and host Alabama, which set a tournament record with a 42-under 810.
UNLV has never won the team title at the JPNI, but in 1998, Jeremy Anderson captured medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 204. Last year, Alabama's Mark Harrell and East Tennessee State's Seamus Power earned co-medalist honors at 15-under 198. UNLV's Seung-Su Han led the Rebels last year at the event with a tie for sixth place at 11-under 202.
Scheduled to compete for UNLV next week will be senior Seung-Su Han, juniors Brett Kanda and Eddie Olson and freshmen Derek Ernst and Colby Smith.
No live scoring is available for this tournament. Results will be posted daily at UNLVRebels.com. This will be UNLV's third tournament of the fall. The Rebels finished second at the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational and won the team title at the William H. Tucker Invitational.
