Rebels Finish Action At Shootout

IRVINE, Calif. - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the second and final day of action in the UC Irvine Shootout on Saturday morning. the UNLV men won two of three meets on the men's side, while the Rebel women went 4-2 against the competition.

In the men's meet, UNLV defeated Air Force 68-45 and BYU 67-46, but lost to Hawaii 74-39. The UNLV women meanwhile won 67-46 over Hawaii, 75-38 over Pepperdine, 69-44 over UC Davis, and 60-53 over San Diego, but lost to Santford by a 94-18 score, and to BYU 85-28.

John Mendoza and David Seiler were the highlights for UNLV on the men's side. Mendoza was a double-event winner, taking the 500 free in 4:31.26, and the 1000 free in 9:20.53. David Seiler meanwhile captured the 200 fly in 1:51.59. The top finishers for the women were Friderika Szel with a fourth-place swim in the 200 free (1:51.92), and Bailey Kustermeyer in the 1000 free (10:23.65).

UNLV will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 15, when it hosts Utah at 2 pm at Buchanan Natatorium.
