Feb. 14, 2008

LAS VEGAS - UNLV goes back to familiar territory as they head back to Flagstaff, Ariz., for the Southwest Host Classic, held at the Walkup Skydome.

On Saturday the Rebels will look to compete against teams that include Southern Utah, New Mexico State and Cal State Dominguez. This is UNLV's second trip to Flagstaff this year and they seek an opportunity to better their previous marks.

"We are going to use this as an opportunity to gain confidence," says head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams.

Look for a strong performance from Monique Humphries in the weight throw and Lekeisha Lawson's performance in the 60 meter dash and the 200. Also the Polee sisters, Kenya and Talyah, look to have good overall performances in the long jump.

At this meet Rebel student-athletes look to compete in events you wouldn't normally see them in such as Clair Schreiner and Kenya in the high jump. Also look for a good performance by the 4x400 relay team which includes: Lawson, De'Lace Kelly, Brittney Bullocks and Kristen Johnson.

"We are also going to play around with different events and test skills ," says Scott-Williams.

The first field event begins at 9:00 am. The first running event will start with the women's 60 meter hurdles preliminary at 9:30 am. The last event of the day is the men's 4x4 relay beginning at 1:15 pm.
