Flagstaff, Ariz., - The second time in Ariz., this year, for the Southwest Host Classic, brings good results for UNLV.
There was a sign of overall good improvement with UNLV student -athletes placing in the top five at least 12 times during the meet. There were many highlights for UNLV and many positives.
Lekeisha Lawson took second place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.59 followed by Brittney Bullocks who came in fifth and had a time of 7.82. Lawson also placed second in the 200 meter with a time of 25.06 and Lauren Johnson had a time of 25.60 for fifth. In the 400 meter Bullock had a season best time of 58.08 for fifth place. In the mile Ashley Silva took fifth with a time of 5:29.43. Kenya Polee came in fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.36.
The 4X400 relay team, which consisted of Bullocks, Johnson, Kristen Johnson, and Lawson, came out strong with a season best time of 3:57.44 for a second place finish. The Polee sisters, Kenya came in second with a distance of 17'-09.50" and Talayah had a distance of 17'-07" for a third place finish respectively. Monique Humphries came in second place in the weight throw with a distance of 53-09.25.
Head Coach Yvonne Scott-Williams had high praise for the student-athletes she said, "I was really impressed with how the team competed overall. We still need to work out some kinks but should go into indoor conference with confidence and post some good marks."
The Rebels have a week to prepare before they head to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championship.
