LAS VEGAS - The 75th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost at home for the first time this season, 5-2, at the hands of 32nd-ranked Texas Tech at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.
The Rebels dropped to 2-2 overall while the Red Raiders stayed perfect at 4-0.
TTU's high-powered doubles attack, which boasts two of the nation's top-11 duos, gave the visitors a 1-0 lead by sweeping three matches.
Things were much more competitive in singles play, however, as UNLV scored twice and took other matches to three sets.
At the top spot, junior Elliot Wronski turned in an impressive victory over 50th-ranked Bojan Szumanski 6-4, 7-6. Also winning for the hosts was Luca Barlocchi, who rallied past Lenoir Ramos 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 (5-1 retired) on court three.
The Rebels had a chance to pull off the big team upset but senior David Campbell fell 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 at No. 4 and Andrew Giuffrida lost 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 at the sixth position.
"Texas Tech is a very good team so I was proud of the way we competed," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "That being said, there is still a lot we can improve on and we need to keep working hard and getting better."
UNLV is back in action on Sunday when it hosts No. 73 San Diego beginning at 10 a.m. Admission is free of charge
