Non-Conference Slate Closes With Loss

March 18, 2008

BERKELEY, Calif. - The UNLV men's tennis team won only two sets en route to a 7-0 loss to No. 40 California at the Hellman Tennis Center on Tuesday.

The Rebels, who have now finished their non-conference schedule, fell to 6-8 while the Golden Bears improved to 8-6 on the year.

Cal began the afternoon by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point, including two that needed extra play.

While Bears won easily on courts 3-6, UNLV had shots at victory at the top of the lineup. However, Kallim Stewart, ranked 116th, came back from losing the second set 6-0 to upset No. 69 Elliot Wronski 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 at the top position. Also, Pierre Mouillon rallied past Luca Barlocchi 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 on court two to close out the match.

UNLV will open Mountain West Conference play on March 27 when it hosts BYU beginning with doubles at 2 p.m.
