Los Angeles - UNLV knew the Trojan Invitational would be a tough challenge but they managed to set up to the challenge that Yvonne Scott-Williams set and "get tough."
At a meet that included some top competitors such as Washington State, Fresno State and Long Beach State there were at least seven times in which student- athletes posted marks in the top seven. The relay team had a second place finish in the 4X100 meter with a time of 46.28 which is still shy of the NCAA qualifying time of 46.00 seconds.
Jennifer Shearer came in sixth place in the 3000 meter with a time of 10:14. Brittney Bullocks came in eighth in the 400 with a time of 56.10. In the 100 meter with a time of 12.25 Lekeisha Lawson came in fifth place. In the 200 meter dash Bullocks came in fourth and Lauren Johnson in fifth place with times of 24.66 and 24.73 respectively.
In the field events Kenya Polee had a strong sixth place finish for her team with a distance of 18'-9" in the triple jump. Claire Schreiner made an appearance in the high jump with the height of 5'-05". Monique Humphries placed second in the shot put with a distance of 39'-11" and her teammate LaShante Ellison finished in eighth with a distance of 34.09. In the discus Olivia Raya posted sixth place with a distance of 125'-03". In the hammer throw Raya had another strong performance for a second place finish with 154'-11" and Humphries finished third with 152'-05".
The next event is next weekend in Fresno, Calif., with the Cal-Nevada Championships.
