LAS VEGAS -
After a challenging indoor season that brought some positive results UNLV looks to open the outdoor season at home at the Myron Partridge Stadium/ Sheila-Tarr-Smith for the first time all year.
The participants in this weekends meet that begins on Saturday are University of LaVerne, Southwestern, Alaska Anchorage, Arkansas Little Rock, Xavier and number of unattached athletes.
"The schools are coming out to get sunshine and they will get it," says Yvonne Scott-Williams.
With the opening of the second part of the season the Rebels look to see what they can bring to the outdoor season after making strides during the indoor season.
"We still have to keep pushing to get better and every meet is another opportunity to get better," says Scott- Williams.
This is the first meet the current coaching staff will put on together. Scott-Williams believes that if they put on a quality meet they will be able to draw more quality competitions here to UNLV.The athlete to watch for is senior Monique Humphries as she will throw the hammer for the first time this year. Look for the relays to be exciting as well.
"We get to experiment a bit when we are at home so that is always fun to do," says Scott- Williams.
The meet is set to begin at 8:45 a.m. (PT) with the women hammer throw. The first field event begins at 9:45 a.m. with the women 3000 meter steeplechase. The concluding event of the day is the men 4X400 meter relay which begins at 2:40 p.m.
