SAN DIEGO - The 51st-ranked UNLV women's tennis team posted its sixth shutout of the season, 7-0 over Colorado State, in a neutral-site affair at the Aztec Tennis Center Saturday.
With their fourth straight win, the Lady Rebels improved to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in Mountain West Conference play. The Rams fell to 6-9 and 0-5.
UNLV began the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. The 48th-ranked duo of Elena Gantcheva and Kristina Nedeltcheva stayed perfect in MWC play (7-0) with an 8-2 at the top sport. Also winning was Anna Maskaljun and Katy Williams at No. 2 and Alisa Razina and Sharon Marin on court three.
UNLV lost only two sets in singles play. Senior star Gantcheva, ranked 35th, improved to 26-10 overall and 6-1 in league play when her opponent, Hilary Tyler, retired trailing 5-0 at the No. 1 position.
Nedeltcheva won her match at No. 2, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) over Laura Neal, Nikol Dimitrova downed Lauren Strasburger 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3, Maskaljun defeated Anette Pohjalainen 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, Williams downed Caitlin Fluegge 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Adrienn Hidvegi rallied past Greer Satherlie 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 on court six.
The Lady Rebels will close out the regular season by facing Air Force on Sunday in San Diego.
