FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior standout Elliot Wronski, sophomore Luca Barlocchi and senior David Campbell were UNLV's representatives on the 2008 All-Mountain West Conference tennis team as the league's awards were announced on Wednesday on the eve of the championship tournament on the campus of TCU.
Wronski, a native of Cheltenham, England, was named all-league in both singles and doubles for the second straight year. Currently ranked 87th as an individual, Wronski is 16-12 overall and 12-8 in dual matches. Barlocchi, out of Zurich, Switzerland, leads the squad in overall singles wins with a 19-7 mark.
Campbell (Queensland, Australia), who was named all-league in doubles with Wronski as his partner, earned his third career All-MWC doubles honor.
The trio will lead 74th-ranked UNLV into the MWC championship tournament as the fourth-seeded Rebels (10-11) begin defense of their 2007 title by facing fifth-seeded BYU (14-11) in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday slated to begin at 2 p.m. PT in Fort Worth.
Determined by a vote of the MWC head coaches, the annual awards also included TCU's Cosmin Cotet and Utah's Zach Ganger being named MWC Co-Players of the Year, BYU's Thomas Shubert Freshman of the Year and New Mexico's Alan Dils Coach of the Year.
