AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 14 UNLV men's golf team is in second place after the first two rounds of play on Monday at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate, which is being played at The University of Texas Golf Club (par 71, 7,412 yards).
UNLV shot an opening-round 11-over 295 in the morning and followed with a 1-over 285 during the afternoon and is just three shots off the lead at 12-over 580.
Oklahoma State leads the field at 9-over 577. The Cowboys' best round of the day came in the second round with a 2-over 286. Host Texas is third at 13-over, while Auburn is 18-over in fourth and UCF rounds out the top five at 19-over, 10 shots off the lead.
Texas' Charlie Holland shot rounds of 3-under 68 and 2-over 73 to lead the field at 1-under 141. UNLV junior Seung-Su Han and senior Matt Kinsinger are both tied for second, one shot off the lead at even-par 142. Two other golfers are also in a tie for second. Han shot an opening-round of 2-over 73 and followed with a 2-under 69, while Kinsinger shot 1-under 70 and 1 over- 72.
Other Rebel players, scores and places: sophomore Eddie Olson (76-71--147, +5, T20th), sophomore Brett Kanda (76-73--149, +7, T28th) and senior C.J. Gatto (79-77--156, +14, T61st).
UNLV, which is the defending Morris Williams champion, is looking for its third win of the year and eighth straight tournament with a top-five finish.
