Rebel Student-Athletes Have Outstanding Year

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Athletics Department continues to make strides both on an off the fields and courts. The 2007-08 school year was extremely successful in the classroom for Rebel student-athletes.

Since detailed academic record-keeping began in 2003-04, this past year resulted in 10 different school records being set or tied. The following is a list of those records...

  • 11 teams with a term GPA of 3.0 or greater (Spring 2008). The old record was 10 in Spring 2006.
  • 14 teams with a term GPA of 2.8 or greater (Spring 2008). The old record was 12 in Spring 2005.
  • 50 percent of student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater (Spring 2008). The old record was 49 percent in Fall 2004.
  • 62 percent of student-athletes with a term GPA of 3.0 or greater (Spring 2008). The old record was 53 percent in Fall 2007.
  • 40 football student-athletes with a term GPA of 3.0 or greater (Fall 2007). The old record was 39 in Fall 2006.
  • 16 members of the football team being named Academic All-MWC (Fall 2007). The old record was 14 in Fall 2006.
  • 48 total student-athletes receiving academic all-conference honors in Fall 2007. The old record was 40 in Fall 2002.
  • 92 student-athletes set to receive academic all-conference honors for Spring 2008. The old record was 90 in Spring 2006.
  • 46 student-athletes set to be named MWC scholar-athletes for 2007-08. Tied existing record of 46, set in 2004-05.
  • 85 student-athletes named to the Dean's Honor List (Fall 2007). The old record was 78 in Fall 2004.
