LAS VEGAS - The UNLV track and field 4x100 meter relay team will open competition at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
Drake University is hosting the four-day meet, which starts tomorrow and runs through Saturday, and features 544 student-athletes per gender. Student-athletes qualified for the championships through participation in one of four regional championship meets.
The Rebels contingent is a group of four making up the relay team, and they are Brittney Bullocks, Tanesha Carr, Lauren Johnson and Lekeisha Lawson. They finished third in the 400-meter relay at the NCAA West Regional, crossing the finish line in a time of 44.91. That time was a season best for the squad and tied for the fifth-fastest time in Rebel history.
The semifinals for the 4x100 meter relay are set to start at 2:30 p.m. (PDT), and the Rebels are part of a field of 20 teams attempting to reach the finals.
"Our plan is to be aggressive and not worry about rankings or times," UNLV head coach Yvonne Scott-Williams said. "It is all about what team is ready on the particular day and we are ready to compete."
If the Rebels advance to the finals, that race will take place on Friday at 5:05 p.m.
