Relay Miscue Hurts Rebels

DES MOINES, Iowa - The UNLV track and field 4x100 meter relay team dropped the baton during the second exchange on Wednesday at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium.

The Rebels did not finsih the race, ending the squad's season, as Brittney Bullocks and Lekeisha Lawson had trouble with the hand off.

Tanesha Carr and Lauren Johnson were also on the relay team, which reached the national meet by placing third at the NCAA West Regional with a time of 44.91. It was the fastest time the squad had run this season and it tied for the fifth-fastest time in UNLV history.

A total of 20 relay teams were competiting for eight spots in Friday's finals, and Texas A&M ran the fastest time with a 43.19. UNLV was the only Mountain West Conference school that fielded a team in the 400-meter relay.

It also brought an end to the first year at the helm of the Rebel track program for Yvonne Scott-Willams.
