LAS VEGAS - UNLV will be represented by three members of its men's swimming and diving team as the 2008 Beijing Olympics opens this weekend in China. Alumni Joe Bartoch will swim for Canada, while two Rebels who just completed their eligibility this past spring, Richard Hortness and Jonas Andersson, will swim for Canada and Sweden, respectively.
Bartoch will swim in the 100 meter fly, which will start with the preliminaries on Aug. 14. The semifinals of the 100m fly will be on Aug. 15, with the finals set for Aug. 16. Bartoch will also swim the fly leg on Canada's 4x100m medley relay, which will be held on Aug. 15, and the finals on Aug. 17.
Hortness meanwhile will swim the 50m free, with preliminary heats beginning on Aug. 14, the semifinals on Aug. 15, and the finals on Aug. 16. He is currently set as an alternate on Canada's 4x-100m free relay (Aug. 10-11).
Andersson will be the first Rebel in action, as his event, the 100m breast, begins on Saturday, Aug. 9, and carries through Aug. 11. Sweden will feature Andersson on the 4x100m medley relay (Aug. 15, 17) on the breast leg as well.
