LAS VEGAS - UNLV's contingent went a combined 7-1 in singles and doubles during the first day of the 2008 UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Friday.
Playing in the top flight, junior Kristina Nedeltcheva downed Orsi Golovics of Northern Arizona 6-2, 6-0.
In flight two, senior Katy Williams won her match over Franzi Stienhardt of Illinois State 6-0, 6-2 but another senior, Nikol Dimitrova, fell in three sets in her match.
In flight three, sophomore Anna Maskaljun defeated Leslie Vial of NAU 6-1, 6-2 and sophomore Adrienn Hidvegi won her flight-four contest, 6-1, 6-2 over Carmin Peters of ISU.
In doubles, Nedetlcheva and Williams combined for an 8-1 win in the top flight, Maskaljun and Alisa Razina doubled up their opponents 8-4 in flight two and Dimitrova and Hidvegi won 8-3 in the fourth flight.
"For our first time back on the court, I thought we competed really well," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "We only lost one today and we're looking forward to more challenges tomorrow."
Action gets underway at 10 a.m. PT on Saturday and runs through Sunday.
