RIVERSIDE, Calif. - UNLV women's cross country team had an outstanding performance Saturday morning as they finished 10th overall at the UC Riverside Invitational.
Senior Jenni Shearer was the top performer for the Rebels, finishing in eighth place and setting one of the top times in UNLV history with her time of 17:24.8. The Rebels had three others finish in the top 100. Senior Isabelle Stoate finished 31st at 18:08.9, senior Bailey Kuestermeyer finished 87th at 19:07.5, and sophomore Ashley Silva took 91st with a time of 19:10.2.
"The team ran really well today. We had several people step and run better than they ever have," head coach Tony Houchin said. "Jenni Shearer had an exceptional race, running one of the best 5k times anyone has ever run at UNLV. Placing in the top 10 as a team in a field as large as the one we saw today is a good sign of the direction the team is heading."
Mountain West Conference opponent BYU took first in Saturday's meet , with host UC Riverside and CS San Marcos rounding out the top three. UNLV took 10th place out of 34 teams that competed. Dallon Williams from CS San Marcos was the top runner of the meet with a time of 16:55.9.
Other Rebels that ran were freshman Erin Murphy placing 154th at 19:57.8, freshman Brett Zorich finished 182nd at 20:18.9, and freshman Amber Throop took 212th at 20:41. 5.
UNLV will next travel to the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif. on Oct.18.
